Girly Bits September 2017 CoTM Meteor Shower and Butterbeer Latte

Today I have the September Colours of the Month from Girly Bits Cosmetics which are launching September 1st and will be available until October 1st at midnight EST here. I get so excited when Pam releases pictures each month of the upcoming CoTM polishes. It's always a fun treat to see what she's come up with and it's fun to partake in the naming contest in the Girly Bits Lovers Group on Facebook.

Girly Bits September 2017 CoTM Meteor Shower and Butterbeer Latte

Girly Bits Butterbeer Latte is described as a warm holographic orange/gold with a rose gold shimmer flash. I am wearing two coats plus top coat. This applied easily and smoothly. It dries down very smooth and is easy to remove. I was worried this wouldn't work well on my pale hands but it's a very flatting shade of orange as it leans more gold.

Girly Bits September 2017 CoTM Butterbeer Latte

Girly Bits Meteor Shower is decribed as shifting between a deep teal, deep purple and deep blue with added green-blue duo chrome flakes. I am wearing two coats plus top coat. This one also applied easily, smoothly and built up quickly. I love how the flakies stand out at most angles. It's such a shifter - you really need to see it to believe it. This might be a little itty bit harder to remove because of the flakies but still super easy.

Girly Bits Keep Calm, Terry On and Fox Trot for Crystal's Charity Lacquers

Terry Fox is a household name in Canada and one of the most inspiring Canadians I would say. To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $750 million for cancer research. This September, Girly Bits has teamed up with Crystal'sCharity Lacquers to support the Foundation in the hopes of finding a cure for cancer once and for all. A note on that, $2 CAD from the purchase of each bottle from the Girly Bits website will go to The Terry Fox Foundation. Now that's a winning combination!

These are available to order from September 1st at 12noon EDT until September 17th at 11:59pm EDT ONLY!

Girly Bits Fox Trot is a lilac holo with pink to blue shimmer. This one is so inredibly sparkly - little sparks fly off the nail in direct lighting. I am wearing 2 coats plus top coat. Very easy to apply and no issues with removal.

There's something magical about this polish. It's so ethereal and light. I love the shifting shimmer in this. I will be reaching for this A LOT! Especially in the Spring months.

Keep Calm, Terry On is a deep blue crelly base, stuffed with red and blue shimmers which gives it a bit of a royal purple lean. This one was inspired by the Terry Fox Foundation colours. This one is so unique and I love the shimmers in it. They appeared as tiny microflakes to me but they are actually shimmers! I am wearing 3 coats plus top coat. You need the 3 coats to add the depth. No issues with application or removal.

I have nothing like this polish in my collection. It's very sparkly and vampy but also really cute and fun. I love how Pam took the colours of The Terry Fox Foundation and turned it into a polish. This application was super smooth and the three coats add depth.

About Crystal's Charity Lacquer, Terry Fox and The Terry Fox Foundation:

This sale is being held in conjunction with @crystalscharitylacquers annual participation in the Terry Fox Run. Terry Fox is a Canadian icon. He was diagnosed at just 18 years old with bone cancer (osteogenic sarcoma) and in 1977, he was forced to have his right leg amputated 6 inches above the knee. While in hospital, he was very overcome by the suffering of the other cancer patients, many of them young children, and he decided he wanted to do something to raise awareness and raise money for cancer research. He decided to do this by setting a goal of running across Canada. It is important to remember that this was before the internet and social media, and also before cancer was as common (or at least commonly talked about) as it is now. Terry Fox called his journey the Marathon of Hope. He began his run in St. John's, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 to little fanfare or attention.Although it was hard to get attention to begin with (again, this was long before the internet!), enthusiasm started to grow and the money he collected along his route grew as well. He ran about 42 kilometers (26 miles) a day!! Sadly, on September 1st, 143 days and 5373 kilometers (3339 miles) into his journey, he was forced to stop running just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because the cancer had spread to his lungs. Terry Fox passed away on June 28th, 1981 at the age of 22.

Although Terry lost his battle to cancer, his legacy was just beginning. The Terry Fox Foundation was created in his name to continue his desire to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Over $650 million dollars has been raised to date through Terry Fox Runs worldwide. The Terry Fox Foundation is a fiscally responsible charity and it is has no corporate sponsorship. The Foundation supports promising research in any field of cancer research. It is not tied to any one type of cancer.

The Terry Fox Foundation is a cause that is close to Crystal's heart for a number of reasons. She is a cancer survivor and is a proud member of Terry's Team. Terry's Team is composed of cancer survivors, who run in the Terry Fox Run to give hope to others battling cancer and to show the world that cancer research is working. Survival rates are going up, but we still have a lot of work to do. The Terry Fox Run is a very emotional run for Crystal. Every year she is choking back tears. Sometimes not so successfully. This year will be especially emotionally as two people that she loves very much have been given a terminal diagnosis.

Terry Fox was one man who strived to make a difference in the world. Crystal also believes whole heartily that we can each make a difference. Many small acts bond together to be a giant, world changing event.

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails Polish Pickup June 2017

Summer is nearing its end so I have to share all my summer colours while they're relevant. This is my first ever nail polish from Blush Lacquers and I'm in love. Let's get onto the many pictures of this gorgeous shimmery shift holo polish.

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails

I'll get this sad news out of the way: Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails was an Exclusive polish to the Polish Pickup and is no longer available. Sorry! Blush Lacquers participates almost every month in the Polish Pickup so you have many more chances to try these gorgeous lacquers in the future.

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails is described as having a light blue base with a green-blue-purple shifting shimmer and a linear holo. I am wearing three thin coats plus top coat. The formula is FANTASTIC. I wore this for over a week and barely had any tip wear at all. No chips, nada. I am thoroughly impressed. I also adore the Blush Lacquers brush; it reminds me of the Dior brush which I find very easy to use and gives me great results with my application.

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails

I have to say that the blue-purple shifting shimmer stole my heart. You can really see it above in the artsy mirror photo. I love how this polish appears as a baby blue in some lighting and a periwinkle lilac in others. No matter what angle you catch it at, it's just beautiful!

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails

I love how the Polish Pickup has introduced me to so many awesome new brands. There's also something really fun about having a chance to submit an idea for the monthly theme and vote on your favorite. The $3 flat rate shipping to Canada is a major bonus as well.

Blush Lacquers Snail Shells and Mermaid Tails

This last photo gives a really good sense of the shift which I was able to capture at a very extreme angle. In real life, the shift is very apparent. Count me in as a Blush Lacquers fan!

Girly Bits Chrysalis Polish Pickup September 2017

I am SO excited to share this Girly Bits Polish made for the September Polish Pickup! Girly Bits Chrysalis is Pam's contribution for the September Polish Pickup theme of Fall Foliage and Fun. Scroll on down for more pictures of this gorgeous polish as well as the inspiration photo which is equally as gorgeous.

Girly Bits Chrysalis Polish Pickup September 2017

Girly Bits Chrysalis is what I am going to call a mossy mint green concoction of multichrome flakes, holographic and microglitter. Girly Bits Chrysalis has a clear base packed with a variety of jewel-toned flakes. This is absolutely PERFECT for September, especially the Fall Foliage and Fun theme. I am wearing 3 thin coats plus top coat though I could have gotten away with two. This dries VERY SMOOTH. Like, shockingly smooth. It's the same awesome formula I have come to expect from Girly Bits.

The official description of Girly Bits Chrysalis is as follows: Chrysalis is a complex polish with a very unique multidimensional but surprisingly smooth finish. It contains an array of green, lime, gold and holographic particles, multichrome flakes in blue, purple, green and gold, iridescent colour shifting flakes and a sprinkling of sparkly holographic flakes. It offers an easy application with excellent coverage. (Caitlin again: couldn't agree more with that last part!)

Girly Bits Chrysalis Polish Pickup September 2017

Girly Bits Chrysalis is inspired by a monarch chrysalis. Pam explains: "we live in the migratory path for the monarch butterfly so in the fall they gather by the thousands on the southern shores of Kingsville and Pelee Island. We often find their beautiful chrysalises suspended from milkweed, or branches and outdoor furniture." Pam snapped the second picture of a chrysalis on her deck chair at the cottage on Pelee Island and the first image (below) was found on good old Google!

ChrysalisChrysalis Pelee Island

This polish WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE again after the Polish Pickup shop closes for September (details on dates are below). Make sure you mark you calendars for September 1 at 11AM through September 4 at midnight EST. Do not miss Girly Bits Chrysalis - it's so so so gorgeous.

My Indie Polish Romeo

While there are still relatively few Canadian indie nail polish brands, the ones who are in the game have been creating amazing lacquer for many years. My Indie Polish is no exception. I remember stumbling across Tanya's brand many years ago and being pleasantly surprised to see she was based in Toronto. I recently received some polishes from My Indie Polish and will be sharing them in the coming weeks but the polish I am sharing today - My Indie Polish Romeo - has been hiding in my helmer for over a year now. I thought it was about time to wear it!

My Indie Polish Romeo

My Indie Polish Romeo is one of the most beautiful, shiny and juicy red polishes I own. My Indie Polish described Romeo as a "bright red linear holo filled with red micro glitter and red shimmer." The red shimmer is so gorgeous and almost gives this polish a pink feel in certain lighting. I love the squishy, jelly finish of this nail polish. It's so smooth and easy to apply. I am wearing 3 thin coats and top coat. It wears really well and the shimmer is just divine. I feel that there is something very sophisticated but fun about this particular red. If you're a red lover, grab this.

My Indie Polish Romeo

This nail polish was released as part of The Magic 8 Box which is a now defunct nail polish box that would feature 8 different brands each month. By some small miracle, My Indie Polish's contribution from the July 2016 box is still available for purchase on the My Indie Polish website. And it's on sale for $7.50 right now! Go, go, go!

My Indie Polish Romeo

Here is the inspiration for this polish... Romeo from Rainbow Brite! How adorable is he?! I also think this polish captures Romeo perfectly. Such a bright yet sexy red nail polish.

You can purchase this polish and many others from My Indie Polish.

Smokey Mountain Lacquers Pacific Dreaming June 2017 Polish Pickup

Another first on the blog today thanks to the Polish Pickup... Smokey Mountain Lacquers! Just as with the Ellagee I shared the other day, the Polish Pickup has been an amazing and innovative way for me to try new brands and the shipping is only $3 no matter how many polishes you buy (to Canada or the USA). Count me in!

Smokey Mountain Lacquers Pacific Dreaming

This pretty polish is Smokey Mountain Lacquers Pacific Dreaming is described as a light blue with a green leaning base, a gorgeous rose gold shimmer and scattered holo. I am wearing two coats plus top coat as it dries to a satin finish. This looks a bit more green in regular daylight than my pictures show, very close to YSL Green Peace but the shimmer appears more purple whereas the YSL is more pink. Also, this SML has added scattered holo which is very delicate and pretty.

Smokey Mountain Lacquers Pacific Dreaming

My thoughts on the formula: it's quite thin but covers well in two coats. The first coat was extremely patchy and I worried for a second but after applying another coat, all was well. It dries to a satin finish so top coat is a must as it brings out the shimmer and holo.

Smokey Mountain Lacquers Pacific Dreaming

This is a well-executed polish and I'm impressed with my first time trying SML. My only quip is that my vertical nail ridges really show through when wearing this polish but that might be due more to the base coat and top coat though my base coat was supposedly ridge filling. Bleh! I still love it!

The Body Deli Rose Geranium Calming Cleanser

I have been wanting to share some of my favorite, non-nail polish beauty items with you for a while now. Today I have one of my latest obsessions from The Body Deli which is a new-to-me brand that offers all natural skincare that is raw, live and pure. The Body Deli does not test on animals, almost products are vegan (these two masques are the only non-vegan items) and non-toxic. The Body Deli offers fresh, organic, raw superfood enhanced personal care products. I am obsessed with the Rose Geranium Cleanser and want to spread the love to the blogosphere. I have sensitive skin, combination and acne-prone skin to give some context but I love this product. It's been working really well for me and it smells heavenly.

The Body Deli Rose Geranium Calming Cleanser

The Body Deli Rose Geranium Calming Cleanser is for those with normal to sensitive skin types, formulated to be gentle and soothing for sensitive skin. It claims to reduce inflammation, sooth irritated skin, reduce redness from rosacea and remove make-up. I would say it definitely reduced inflammation and redness, though I do not have rosacea. It also give an amazing clean to the skin and leaves my face feeling fresh and hydrated. Did I already mention it smells amazing?

According to The Body Deli's website, "Rose Geranium is a very harmonizing and balancing essential oil. This is an excellent daily cleanser for sensitive skin that is easily irritated from environmental pollution, stress or hormonal changes. The calming benefits of ROSE GERANIUM, LICORICE EXTRACT, RICE BRAN, and ARNICA are profound. These unique botanicals are known for their balancing effect in helping to hydrate dry patches and also normalize oiliness in the T-Zone area. Superfoods such as VIRGIN COCONUT OIL and TOCOTRIENOLS enhance the function and nutritional value for this facial cleanser."

I highly recommend this cleanser to anyone looking for a gentle but effective cleanser. I don't use it to remove makeup personally so I cannot vouch for that efficacy but I love it as a cleanser after removing my eye makeup. I use it in the morning and it's a great way to start my day. I also feel great about the ingredients so it's a big win in my beauty book.

Ellagee I Shall Call Him Squishy June Polish Pickup

I've got more pink for your eyeballs! Well, it's more a magenta. It's also the first time I have shared an Ellagee polish on the blog. I am working my way through Polish Pickup polishes I have ordered. This is from the June 2017 Polish Pickup. I am a HUGE fan of the Polish Pickup and hope to share more swatches soon even though none of them are currently available. Sorry!

Ellagee I Shall Call Him Squishy Polish Pickup

This is Ellagee I Shall Call Him Squishy which is described as a hot pink crelly base with with pink iridescent flakes and blue shimmer. To my eyes it's more a magenta than a hot pink as it's got a little bit of purple in it in addition to the blue flash. Pictures show three coats plus top coat. This polish wore very well with barely any signs of wear after 4 days. Colour me impressed!

Ellagee I Shall Call Him Squishy Polish Pickup

This was my second time trying an Ellagee polish and I really love the unique finishes offered by the brand. This is a really bright polish, bordering on neon and the iridescence and shimmer make it very unique. I found the formula to be a little thicker than I am used to and ended up applying three coats to get a finish I was happy with. Again, it wasn't a challenging application by any stretch of the imagination but not as breezy as expected but I'm super picky, if you didn't already know! Application was breezy with the other Ellagee I have tried and have another waiting to be swatched. All the Ellagee polishes I have tried have been from the Polish Pickup (Squishy included). Like I said before, wear was excellent for the Ellagee.

Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy The Holo Hookup March 2016

You have seen a lot of Girly Bits on the blog lately so I thought I would switch it up with some Glisten & Glow. I realize I keep to a very select few brands in my nail polish collection and so I like to think of my blog as a finely curated selection of polishes from brands that I really trust. I so have some newish brands to share soon so look out for those over the next few weeks!

Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy The Holo Hookup March 2016

Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy was from The Holo Hookup box in March 2016. Over a year ago... which means this is no longer available but I bought it second hand so I am sure there are other bottles out there if you're looking. Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy is a bright pink linear holographic with cherry and silver holo microglitters and added pink shimmers. I am wearing two coats plus top coat. This dries quite smooth despite the microglitters but you definitely want to add top coat.

Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy The Holo Hookup March 2016

If you couldn't tell from the photos... this polish is HOT PINK HOLO PERFECTION. Wow! Is this ever sparkly and bright. Applying this nail polish brought a smile to my face because pink is my happy place. This also wore extremely well as all G&G holos have in my past experience. I had this on for 5 days with barely any wear which is a major win in my books.

Glisten & Glow Pink Rock Candy The Holo Hookup March 2016

You can purchase The Holo Hookup box here from the 21-28 of each month. Stay up to date by following The Holo Hookup on Facebook

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Mermaid of Honour and Sand of a Beach

I've got more Girly Bits to share with you today! This time it's the July CoTM polishes which, while no longer available directly from the Girly Bits Cosmetics website, will soon be available from Harlow & Co.! So if you fall in love with either or both of these and didn't grab them in July, you still have a chance.

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Mermaid of Honour and Sand of a Beach

Girly Bits Mermaid of Honour is a bright turquoise with an aqua glow and a heavy pink/purple shifting shimmer, scattered holo and holo micro glitter. I can't even express how perfectly mermaid-y this polish is. I am wearing 2 super easy, super smooth coats plus top coat. This polish is so smooth even with the microglitter but top coat really perfects the finish.

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Mermaid of Honour

Girly Bits Sand of a Beach is a champagne/light gold holo and glitter mix, in a semi sheer base. According to the description, opacity can be reached in three coats, or it makes a nice dense topper over jewel tones. I am wearing three thin coats plus top coat. I would suggest two thick layers of top coat because this is a glitter and will dry gritty. This is SO sparkly and so reminiscent of sand on a beautiful tropical beach. I will have to try this layered over another polish sometime and report back. I imagine it would be beautiful but it's really gorgeous on its own.

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Sand of a Beach

These two polishes might be the most beach-perfect lacquers to ever grace my nails. I'm honestly in awe of both of these shades but Mermaid of Honour is some kind of magic. It's the perfect nail polish for those who dream of being a mermaid or anyone who loves aqua. I couldn't stop staring at my nails while I wore this - it's breathtaking.

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Mermaid of Honour

Sand of a Beach is absolutely stunning too. It's got so much going on which makes it fun to look at. It reminds me of the white sand at Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County, ON. I love how well it built up and how the shimmer comes through - it's pinky and golden. Just beautiful.

Girly Bits Cosmetics CoTM July 2017 Sand of a Beach

Onto the closeups... here's another look at Girly Bits Mermaid of Honor.
