Summer Sunset Ombre Sponge Gradient Nails

I love the summer heat. I especially love hot summer evenings, particularly as the sun is setting. This mani is my attempt at capturing the blazing hot beauty that is summertime. This is my first ever sponge gradient mani and I am pleased as punch with it! It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and I will definitely be doing more of these. I used China Glaze Peachy Keen as my base and then sponged on Joe Fresh Pineapple (I don't support Joe Fresh but had purchased this before the tragedy at their Bangladesh factory), OPI A Roll in the Hague and Wet 'n' Wild Red A Good Book. I love the effect of these colors together and it definitely is appropriate for the summer weather.

Also, we have been experimenting with photography lately and thought our nails would be the perfect subjects! Expect more of these kinds of photos (along with the regular swatch-style ones) in the future/from now on. Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!

Color Club Eternal Beauty

I have deemed summer the season of the holo - the holographic nail that is! I cannot get enough of holographic nails when the sun is shining brightly and my nails are blinding everyone I walk by. It's like some kind of super power. Color Club Eternal Beauty is so incredibly holographic, it's also incredibly purple. Kind of the best combination ever. This polish applies very well and lasts about 2-3 days without chipping (impressive for a high street holographic polish). It also happens to look very pretty in the shade, too. Colour Club did an excellent job with their Spring 2013 Halo Hues Collection - expect to see more from it soon!

All pictures show 2 coats of Color Club Eternal Beauty, no top coat.

Flash. Also, I have no idea why I'm holding a Lynnderella polish here :x

Pink Carousel Nails

For some reason this manicure reminds me of a carousel. No there's no micro-sized horses prancing across my nails but I get this overall impression of a carousel.

OPI Sparrow Me the Drama is the base colour with OPI Rally Pretty Pink and butter LONDON Molly Coddled offering accent details.

Sparrow Me the Drama is honestly such a beautiful creme polish. It's a subdued pink, a pastel if you will, sort of like a dusty rose colour. Now before that conjures up thoughts of bad 80's decor, believe me it's a great shade of pink.

Rally Pretty Pink is another great polish. It's a sparkle polish which overall I would say is a rose gold shade but as you can see in the pictures it can look a bit more golden, more pink, or even a bit purple depending on the light. I have it layered over Sparrow Me the Drama.

Here I go again but Molly Coddled is another pretty polish. This is also a creme polish and also a pastel. It's a purple but I'd say almost a pink-purple. You can see another mani using it here.

Together these three polishes make for a beautifully light manicure. It may not remind you of a carousel but it sure looks pretty among the flowers!

Happy Hands Nail Polish Metal Heart

I have a huge soft spot for pink. Pink shoes, pink dresses, pink hair, pink, pink, pink. It goes without saying that I love pink nail polish. I like it bright, soft, purple-y, glittery, any way! Happy Hands Metal Heart provides the perfect pink polish with the gorgeous addition of black and white hexes and squares plus an incredible purple-y-blue micro-shimmer throughout. I first saw this polish on Spaz & Squee where she mentioned that it reminded her of rock star barbie. That couldn't be more accurate! This polish is punk-rock prettiness for your nails.

This polish is a jelly so I used 3 coats to build it up to where I wanted it. While you could layer it, preferably over another jelly, I would still recommend at least 2 coats so you create enough depth to see the black and pink and shimmer jelly/layer together. I really do love this polish so much! It might be one of my favourites. When I wear it again I will try it over 1 or 2 coats of OPI Houston We Have A Purple because that polish is also a lovely magenta jelly.

Happy Hands is currently celebrating their Birthday so check out their links below for coupon codes and festivities.

Lumina Lacquer Spring in Iceland

If you've been following our blog, you will know that we love Lumina Lacquer (see here, here, and here). So, we are continuing to express our love! Today we have Lumina Lacquer Spring in Iceland - a whimsical blue-centric glitter polish with stars, hearts, squares, circles, and mini hexes... and more... oh my! I wanted a high contrast look so I went with Layla SofTouch Effects #04 and accent triangles of butter LONDON Scouse. I absolutely love how this turned out. The pink and blue are a really fun, summery combination that I will try again with some other polishes. The pink and blue together make me think of the Blur song Girls and Boys (linked at the bottom of post) which is a total bonus! I won't go on gushing about Spring in Iceland too much because it is currently unavailable and I am not sure if it will become available again. We can only hope! Now you can look at my nails and rock out to Blur!

All pictures show 1 coat (dabbed) of Lumina Lacquer Spring in Iceland over 2 coats of Layla SofTouch Effects #04, 1 coat of Gelous and 1 coat of Seche Vite.

Riley's Favorite Scents

Now that we're well into Summer I thought I'd share with you some wonderfully summery scents that I just adore!

None of these perfumes are new to the market but maybe you've never considered them before, so I'm here to encourage you to give them a try or at least a sniff.

I have loved Gwen Stefani ever since I heard No Doubt's Spiderwebs when I was five years old, dancing to it on my grandparents' deck. Haha. It was on one of those compilation albums like Now or something but for the life of me I can't remember which one. I did eventually buy the actual album Tragic Kingdom when I got a bit older like seven or something. It's still one of my favourite albums.

I mean who wouldn't be captivated by this, especially at age 5?

Anyway, I think Gwen Stefani (or whoever makes her scents) does an awesome job creating fresh, summery scents. Fragrances are very personal I know but these UGH are just absolutely fabulous and are not at all cloyingly sweet (I do only use one spritz, though).

L Eau de Parfum by L.A.M.B
This reminds me of this lily fairy cabbage patch doll I had when I was young. It also reminds me of the ocean. It's a beautiful fragrance. I have no idea how to describe/detect the various scents so here's a little description from now smell this “sparkling green freshness” and “leafy water hyacinth” (additional notes include freesia, pear, violet leaves, jasmine, rose, lily of the valley, sweet pea, orange blossom, frangipani blossom, peach skin, heliotrope and musk).

Super G Eau d Toilette by Harajuku Lovers
This one is the only one I can see potentially being a little sweet for people. It's fruity and delicious smelling. Here's another description from now smell thisSuper G is a fruity floral; the notes include pineapple, mandarin, freesia, banana, musk, vanilla and raspberry.

Music Eau de Toilette by Harajuku Lovers
This is for sure my favourite of the bunch and it is the freshest. I use this the least because I love it so much. Does anyone else do that? Refrain from using/wearing something because you like it? Haha, crazy. Yet another description from now smell this: notes of clementine, pear, jasmine sambac, sweet pea, honeysuckle, vanilla, skin musk and sleek woods.

I bought L and Super G from either Winners, TJ Maxx, or Marshalls. You can find them all online, though, I believe.

What are your favourite fragrances? Do you like fresh scents like me or something sweeter?

Now I am eager to get my hands on G of the Sea.

Layla SofTouch Effect #04

Well, this polish took me completely by surprise! I bought it online (I have also seen Layla at Ulta) randomly last year and still hadn't tried it so I felt I should try it out sometime soon... I kind of wasn't excited about wearing it but then once I put it on I fell in love. Seriously. This polish is the dreamiest, barbie-est pink I have ever seen and  I am loving every minute of it. So so so pretty. And the finish! The "softouch effect" is incredible. It's matte but shimmery/sparkly and it feels nice to the touch. It also applied like a dream. Perfect application in 2 easy coats. Buy this if you love pink. I love pink and I love this polish! I want to try other Layla SofTouch Effects now! I love it when I find an amazing pink :)

All pictures show 2 coats of Layla SofTouch Effect #04, no top coat.

Such a cute bottle! But only 10 mL!

Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche (2013 Edition)

I don't know what really to say about this post other than BUY IT NOW BEFORE IT'S GONE FOREVER! Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche, which is a limited edition scent, is one of the most incredibly beautiful scents I have ever encountered. Ever.

According to Estée Lauder, Bronze Goddess is "Inspired by the warmth of the Mediterranean, a citrus floral blend with notes of Bergamot and Orange Blossom." It is the quintessential summer scent which is warm and sensual without being too heavy. It has a coco-nutty vibe which I love most. Every time I wear it I think of the beach, ocean air, and sunshine.

If you can find it, buy it as it's sold out (forever) online at I purchased my bottle (the last one!) at Belk.

Rocket Popsicle Nail Art featuring HARE Polish Married to the Monarchy

July 4th is just around the corner so I thought I would celebrate in style with some nail art. I wanted something red, white, and blue but nothing too traditional. I was also inspired by the beauty of rocket popsicles that everyone loves in the summer. I saw my HARE polish Married to the Monarchy and knew I could make the perfect mani! I went with a lighter blue because of the popsicles and the lighter tone of blue (almost teal) in Married to the Monarchy. This is one of my first attempts at a sponge gradient and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I used some random drugstore polishes for the red, white, and blue gradient and followed The Nailasarus' gradient tutorial. I finished off the gradient with some Seche Vite and one coat of INM Nothern Lights (a gorgeously delicate holographic top coat). I am in love to say the least. Have a great day wherever you are --- peace, love and popsicles!
