OPI Stranger Tides

This is just such a pretty polish. It's a classic kind of polish without being too conventional.

OPI Stranger Tides is a murky khaki green that leans a little grey. It's a wonderful color and the formula is okay. A little streaky and patchy when you apply it but a good layer of top coat makes it smooth and glossy. I layered some Shleee Polish over top (you can see that pairing here). I'm so glad I picked this up (50% off too) because I love Pirates of the Caribbean and OPI :)

Fantastic Fridays - Food and Fun

Yes, this second instalment of Fantastic Fridays is actually happening on a Saturday. In fact, I was so busy enjoying a wonderfully fantastic Friday that I didn't have time to make a post. I love the fall and September is one of my favorite months - I must enjoy it as much as possible! Shout out to September as a fantastic thing - I love you!

Lumina Lacquer Summer Town

For this manicure, I wanted to do something different. I usually like to be all matchy-matchy with my base polish and glitter topper (in an obvious way) but I thought I would test my pairing skills. So, test I did! I used OPI Just Spotted the Lizard with Lumina Lacquer Summer Town.... AND IT TURNED OUT BEAUTIFULLY!

Ring from Forever 21 ages ago!

The gold/green duochrome that OPI Just Spotted the Lizard offers really complimented the black and pink of Lumina Lacuqer Summer Town in a fun and classy way. I wasn't expecting this to be a match made in heaven but sure enough I loved it even more than I could have imagined.

I dabbed on quite a bit of Lumina Lacquer Summer Town to ensure an even and dense coverage. Application was pretty easy (I thinned Summer Town with some Seche Restore because I found it a little too thick for my liking initially) but some of the hex glitters did curl and the large glitters did stick off quite a bit (I had to use 3 coats of top coat to ensure a relatively smooth surface). Overall, I love the way this manicure turned out - I think I need to pull out this OPI more often as undies!

Wonderful Wednesdays

Happy Wednesday!! Half way through the week - hooray!
Here are a few items and thiiiings I have been eyeing for a while now and would love to get my hands on.

I recently discovered this rad clothing company Pyknic on instagram. It is truly a company after my own heart - combining fashion and food, utterly brilliant.

These Dolce & Gabbana glasses are my dream glasses. The shape is super flattering, sort of a rounded cat's eye and don't even get me started on the colour! OMG could they be more amazing?

I've tried growing my hair to some sort of substantial length many times throughout the years but I always get antsy during the growing out process and end up cutting it. This isn't really current but Lana looks sooo stunning in this still from Ride that I thought I'd use it for inspiration to get me through those blah hair days. haha.
N.B. I'll let Lana keep the long locks. I've cut my hair shorter than I've had it in a long while and I love it!

And here's a little something to adorn those luscious Lana locks. hehe. I love the selection of bows at this etsy shop Cute & Creepy. The colour of this bow is great and I pretty much love anything sea-life themed. Yay for seahorses!!

Hot Topic
UGGGHHHH! This dress! I absolutely love it! It's a little too pricey for me but a girl can dream ;)

Utopia's Polish Piñata

Let's get down to business. I love pink, I love glitter, I love rainbows. I love these nails. They look like something a unicorn riding fairy would wear. This is one of my top 5 favorite manis EVAR! It's one dabbed coat of Utopia's Polish Piñata over 3 coats of Girly Bits Cosmetics Jelly Shoes (blogged about here).

Whenever I looked at my nails, I got super happy and felt like I could take on the world. I love these nails and will totally wear this combo again and again.

Pastel Galaxy Nails

Be forewarned that there a ton of photos in this post!

Hopefully that doesn't scare you off ;)

I really wanted to paint my nails with Lime Crime's Milky Ways when I got the idea to create a pastel galaxy, using MilkyWays as the base. To ensure a dreamy, ethereal theme I mainly used purple and blue with little hints of orange. I enlisted Caitlin to create this work of art and what a fabulous job she did! I was completely mesmerized by my nails the whole time.

To create the galaxy design she used a sponge to apply bits of colour here and there. There really isn't any strict method just place different colours where you see fit. Then you can add a few dots of colour to suggest stars with a dotting tool or toothpick. You can go allover the nail with a glitter topcoat too.

Colours used to follow pictures...

Base colours: Lime Crime - Milky Ways, Revlon - Lily, China Glaze - Bahamian Escape and Peachy Keen
Glittery Bits: China Glaze - Ultimate Holiday, NYC 101A (super old!!!)

Caitlin fished out little pieces from Candy Lacquer's Diamonds in the Sky to apply the stars and diamonds using a toothpick.

Fantastic Fridays - Unintentionally Halloweeny

Riley and I used post Wonderful Wednesdays (Riley) and Fantastic Fridays (Caitlin) on our food blog Kitchen Grrrls. We have decided to pick it up again and try it out on Streets Ahead Style because we enjoy it and hope you will too!

These posts will give us space to share some of things we are currently loving in a fast and fun way. There will be no particular theme just fantastic and wonderful things we are digging lately. It will also give you a glimpse into our tastes and interests.

Viva Moz
Hand made vegan acrylic sweater... honoring The Smiths (my favorite band ever). I desperately need this!

Betsey Johnson
Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I love skeletons, spiders, and creepy things all year round but now is the time when those kinds of things are plentiful. This necklace would be perfect for me. I love Betsey Johnson's spider-y accessories.

Scrumptious Delight
Another amazing halloween-y thing. A toaster pop-shaped pillow! Ah, so cute!

Shleee Polish
Well, this took an unintentionally halloweeny turn so I thought I would go with it. This is Shleee Polish's Halloween 2013 Collection. I ordered these as soon as I saw Ashley's pictures on IG. Skulls and pumpkins and glitter, oh my! They are currently en-route and we will post our manicures with these polishes as soon as we adorn our nails with these polishes!

Shleee Polish Starship Trooper {Swatches and More}

A few posts back we teased you with some bottle shots of Shleee Polishes (here), specifically the YES Collection. Well here is Starship Trooper in action! If these pictures can convince you of the beauty of this polish then you're in luck because it's still in stock on her Etsy store!

Hurry - RUN! We will wait for you to place your order ;)

I don't really know how or where to begin to describe the beauty of this polish. Starship Trooper is described as follows: This polish features matte green moons with blue and green glitters in a holo/iridescent base. This polish glints lavender, pink, blue, and of course green depending on the light. I might have only used it as an accent nail but I couldn't stop staring at my ring finger.

I initially paired Starship Trooper with OPI Stranger Tides, then a few days later, not wanting to take Starship Trooper off, I painted the rest of my nails with Revlon Top Speed Emerald. Starship Trooper wears incredibly well - it's one of the smoothest, flat-laying glitters I have ever worn. The glitters come out without any fishing at all, application is a breeze (I didn't even have to use the dabbing method!!). I cannot recommend Shleee Polish enough. YOU NEED THIS POLISH!

It is almost impossible to capture the beauty of this polish in pictures but I think these pictures give a pretty good sense of the iridescence and shimmer that makes Starship Trooper so uniquely gorgeous. I've said it like 98345 times in this post already but you really need to try this polish. My little Shleee Polish army is growing and it's no wonder because Ashley's polishes are OUT OF THIS WORLD!

P.S. Did you notice that our blog has a new look? We are absolutely LOVING the amazing new header and sidebar goodies that Dinosaur Stew created for us. Our blog feels so fancy now :)

Girly Bits Jelly Shoes

Jelly Shoes is the first Girly Bits Cosmetics I have tried... I'm in LOVE! I was initially attracted to this polish because of its name - seriously, who doesn't love jelly shoes? I know I do and I have had my fair share of them over the years. I really wish I had a pair right now that I could have modelled with in these pictures, hehe. This GIF will have to suffice!

source unknown :(

I wore 3 coats of Girly Bits Cosmetics Jelly Shoes alone (just my Poshe base coat as per usual). I love the way this pink sears your eyes! It's so bright, seriously! It also has this amazing cool blue shimmer that winks at you in certain lighting. This really is a gorgeous polish which could also be layered for those with longer nails, etc. Wonderful application and dried quickly. LOVE!

And if you weren't already aware, I LOVE HOT PINK!
