Lynnderella Funderland + B.A. Whizard, II over Sally Hansen Pool Party

Sally Hansen Pool Party

Isn't it great when you squash a polish lemming? For me, both of these polishes were major lemmings for a long time. I knocked them both off my wish list last month. Then I decided to wear them together for a perfectly wintry yet bright look!

Lynnderella Funderland is the multi-glitter worn on my index and middle fingers. It has a frosty/shimmery base that accents the pastel and neon glitters really nicely. There are circles, stars, hexes and snowflakes in this mix. I wore Funderland over three coats of Sally Hansen Pool Party which is a sheer frosty greeny-blue. While it was sheer, it built up nicely and paired really well with the Lynnderella glitter. As for Funderland itself, like all Lynns, it applied really well in one dabbed-on coat. I had to do a little bit of glitter placement but not too much. Funderland is an Limited Edition polish which is no longer available as it was part of 2013's Advent collection.

The Lynnderella on my ring and pinky fingers is B.A. Whizard, II which was a Special Edition numbered polish. It is no longer available and I scored it second-hand in a Facebook group. Yipee! I wore 1 coat of Whizard over 3 coats of Sally Hansen Pool Party. This micro-glitter is tops! It spread perfectly. Super even, super smooth application. It's just so sparkly and pretty! I finished this mani off with 1 coat of Girly Bits Glitter Glaze on all my nails. It's my new go-to glitter top coat. No more doubling up on Seche or Gelous. This baby smooths glitters like no other top coat I've ever used.

You can purchase Lynnderella polishes at their eBay store. I found Sally Hansen at CVS for $0.79! And Glitter Glaze is available directly from Girly Bits (seriously, buy it!).

Bear Pawlish Peek-A-Boo

It might be the middle of winter but my nails say otherwise. I've professed my love for hot pink polish before - it's no secret. Therefore, it will come as no surprise that I absolutely love, love, love this incredibly polish from Bear Pawlish. Introducing... Peek-A-Boo!

Peek-A-Boo is a hot pink, perhaps the hottest pink I've ever worn. It's practically neon pink. The finish is holographic but it dries to an amazing shine. I used 2 coats for these pictures and 1 coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top. This polishes pleases me to no end; not only is it gorgeous, it also had almost no tip wear after 5 days! This, my friends, is a miracle. I have yet to try other Bear Pawlish holos so I can't say if this is the case for all polishes by this brand or just the case for this polish of my dreams. Either way, I am tickled pick by this polish. It also looks to be a core polish so you should be able to get your paws on it quite easily.

How to Winterize Your Nails

Our ethereal wintery nail look using OPI Care to Danse topped with Enchanted Polish Ice Castle (how appropriate!).

Winter is here in full effect. The cold winds are blowing and the snow is falling. We are both pretty busy running around between work and school and sometimes that means we neglect to protect our delicate skin from the elements. I often neglect to put on my mittens when running from my car to the grocery store or from building to building on campus. Leaving your skin exposed to even a few moments of the harsh cold takes its toll on your hands. I should know!

I'm going to share some of my quick tips for keeping your hands and nails healthy during the winter season.

  • Always wear gloves! Exposing skin to the cold can really damage your delicate epidermis so take the time to bundle up!
  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Throw a bottle of lotion in your bag, car, locker, coat pocket... wherever. Whenever you have a spare moment, slather it on (we'll share some of our favorites).
  • Cuticle care! Keep those cuticles moisturized with products specifically designed for cuticles (see below).
  • Coat your nails! Make sure to treat your nails to a moisturizing base coat or treatment.

With so many products to choose from, it's hard to know what actually works. We've tried A LOT of different products and here are our top picks for Winterizing Your Nails.

Uremol 20 - A super intense treatment for cracked hands (or feet). It works wonders but it is a little greasy so it's best for intensive therapy.
Earth Therapeutics Nail + Cuticle Care - Here is a link to our review.
The Body Shop Body Butter - Plain and simple... this body butter is rich and moisturizing. It's perfect to take on the go for a quick pick me up for your hands.
The Body Shop Hand and Nail Butter - This is my nightly treatment. I keep it at my bedside and apply liberally before I go to sleep. My hands and cuticles feel soft the next morning.

CND Cuticle Eraser - When the winter comes, you want to make sure your cuticles are kept under control but also well moisturized. Some cuticle removers are extremely drying (I'm looking at you Blue Cross) so find a remover that also moisturizes, like this one.
Cuticle Oils - When I'm working by the computer or reading, I apply cuticle oil all over my nails for some extra moisture to my nail beds. My favorites are CND Solar Oil and Girly Bits Frazzle Fixer in Pumpkin Spice. Make sure to avoid essential oils in your oil.
Burts Bees Lemon Butter - An oldie but a goodie. I keep one in my purse at all times to apply whenever I can. Easy and effective.

NailEZEE Nail Treatment - This is my go-to base coat and nail treatment. It actually allows your nails to grow stronger while still maintaining flexibility. Some nail treatments are extremely drying and make your nails brittle (ahem, Duri, ahem). NailEZEE is just amazing. It really has made a difference to my overall nail health.

Chaos & Crocodiles Silent Wings and Black Ops

Silent Wings from Chaos & Crocodiles is a pretty insane flaky topper. And I think the insanity level is maximized when it is placed over Black Ops, also from Chaos & Crocodiles.

I feel like I have some kind of reptile/anphibian/insect scales on my nails and while the may be slightly disturbing to think of, it looks pretty cool.

Silent Wings is a multichrome flaky top coat. It has a whole lot of action going, burgundy, copper, blue. It's magic.

Please excuse the lack of clean-up happening, I wanted to get pictures ASAP becasue currently I do not have any nail files ready and waiting for me on the computer.

Silent Wings is from the Dreaming of Dragons Collection and is unfortunately sold out at the Chaos & Crocodiles online shop.

But maybe it'll come back in stock, here?

Colors by Llarowe Soccer Mom

I tend to prefer dark blue nail polishes over baby blue or powder blue ones but for some reason I absolutely adore Soccer Mom from Colors by Llarowe. I would classify this shade of blue as sky blue. I can just imagine some white puffy clouds floating inside the bottle. It also reminds me of the movie Frozen (although I have never seen it).

The white shimmer and microglitters, which you can see well in this photo, lend the polish an icy coolness. I find it interesting that this is from the Summer 2014 collection because of that. Also surprising is the fact that this polish looks fine with my skin tone despite it being pretty cool.

I was very content with this polish and was in no rush to change it.

It dries matte with a little texture so you definitely need a topcoat to bring out its shine.

You can buy it here.

Colors by Llarowe Here Comes the Brides and Liquor is Quicker

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2015, wow! I like the sound of 2015. Maybe it's because five is my favourite number, who knows? But it's here, so let's do this!

I bring to you two unique polishes from Colors by Llarowe. I've never seen a polish quite like Here Comes the Brides; it's off-white crelly base with black and purple glitters of various sizes along with irredescent square glitters, gets me excited.

Not often do you see a shade of purple quite like Liquour is Quicker, it's almost periwinkle. The fact that it's a jelly is just super cool.

Both polishes applied well with two coats. I finished the nails off with one coat of topcoat.

Thanks for looking and hopefully we can be a little more consistent in 2015.
Well wishes to you and yours for the new year!
